Boeing 747 returned to Heathrow Airport after being hit by a bird; relief plane leaves for passengers.
Mumbai: An Air India flight with 434 passengers has been stuck at London's Heathrow airport since Thursday after a bird hit it.
Flight AI-112, a Boeing 747-400, was grounded due to heavy ingestion in one of its engines. Another aircraft was sent to London on Friday with a replacement engine, said a spokesperson for Air India.
"Ninety-six passengers were transferred to the relief aircraft which reached New Delhi via Ahmedabad. The remaining 338 passengers have been accommodated at various hotels near Heathrow airport," the spokesperson said.
The aircraft will depart from London on Saturday and is scheduled to reach New Delhi by Sunday afternoon.
