Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday asked the Centre to increase coal supply to Parichha thermal power station to five rakes a day, an official spokesman said here.

In a letter written to Union Minister for Power and Coal (Independent Charge) Piyush Goyal, Akhilesh has said due to short supply of coal, three units of Parichha had to be closed down on August 6, which has resulted in shortage of 450 MW in generation.

All the units of Parichha station are coal fired thermal power plants.

He said coal for Parichha station was supplied by four subsidiaries of Coal India Limited of which 50 per cent and 22 per cent supply was done by BCCL and NCL respectively to the power station.

Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) and Northern Coalfield Ltd (NCL) are subsidiaries of Coal India Ltd.

The Chief Minister has referred to his earlier letter written on July 1 in which he demanded an increase of coal supply to the power station.

He said that BCCL has continuously decreased coal supply to Parichha in the past week.

Akhilesh said at present five rakes of coal are needed against which only three rakes were being supplied.

He has requested the Union Minister to direct the suppliers, BCCL and NCL to ensure supply of four rakes and one rake per day respectively. In addition, he said coal stock should also be increased.
