In a spine-shivering incident, Red Sanders smugglers in Andhra Pradesh’s Annamayya district killed Ganesh, an Andhra Pradesh State Anti-Red Sanders Task Force (APSRSTF) armed reserve constable, by knocking him down the car.
The incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday while the APSRSTF personnel were conducting searches since Monday night.
The task force staff had received a tip-off that illegal transportation of Red Sanders was taking place in Chinnepalle of KV Palle Mandal.
Based on the tipoff, they reached the Gollapalli tank on the border of Sundupalle at KV Palle-Sundupalle forest road which is 30 km from Piler in Annamayya district, and checked the vehicles.
The team stopped a car arriving from Kadapa with five passengers, including the driver, while Ganesh asked the driver to get down for verification, the remaining staff checked the vehicle.
During the verification, an argument broke out between Ganesh and the driver. While the two were quarreling, the team found red sanders in the vehicle.
Sensing trouble, the driver moved towards the car and then knocked down the constable who was standing in front of the vehicle. The incident injured Ganesh leading to a fracture.
The staff and officials chased the speeding car and later, stopped it near Piler. They subsequently seized the vehicle along with the Red Sanders.
Out of five persons travelling in the car, three managed to escape, while the task force took custody of the remaining two.
Ganesh succumbed to severe injuries while he was on the way to Government Hospital in Piler. Constable Ganesh, a native of Puttaparthi of Satya Sai district, belonged to the 14th battalion.
Meanwhile, Telugu Desam Party chairman, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, blamed the YSRCP administration for the killing of police constable Ganesh.
Over the last five years, Naidu claimed, the government led by the YSRCP has weakened and rendered the Red Sanders anti-smuggling task force ineffective.
