Android L: Google gives a peek into the next generation Android OS
According to Google, Android L "is built for the multi-screen world" and would also give developers the ability create apps for screens of all sizes.

New Delhi: At its annual developer's conference Google gave the world a look into what to expect from the next generation of the Android operating system. The next version of Android has been codenamed 'L', that many assume to stand for 'Lollipop'. Google has a history of naming each version of the system after sweet treats.

According to Google, Android L "is built for the multi-screen world" and would also give developers the ability create apps for screens of all sizes - from a small smartphone to a large television.

One of the highlights of Android L is the new 'material design' that would create a consistent experience across mobile and the Web and will be the new Google-wide standard.

Android L will bring in more power and value to the notifications and also add more interactivity. Also in Android L, an incoming call wouldn't take up the entire screen when the user is in the middle of some other task and instead appear as a pop up notification.

Google is also introducing Trusted Environments with the L, where users can access their Android devices without the hassle of punching in a PIN or swiping a pattern to unlock.
