KOCHI: After a gap of 12 years, Kochi will play host to the annual conference of the Indian Psychiatric Society, to be held at Hotel Le Meridian, here, from January 19 to 22. More than 3,000 psychiatrists, both local and international, are expected to participate in the 64th edition of the event. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Psychiatry...mysteries to molecules’, which will also be attended by a number of national and international experts, including researchers and academicians. American Psychiatric Association National president Dr John Oldham, European College of Psychiatry president Dr Joseph Zohar and American Psychiatric Association designated president Dr Dilip V Jasthe will be among the delegates. The event will be inaugurated by the Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi. Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies, K V Thomas and Excise and Ports Minister K Babu will be present. On the sidelines of the conference, a seminar-cum-workshop will be held. The programme, ‘Bridging Voluntary Work and Science of Mind in Psychiatric Rehabilitation’, will be inaugurated by former Speaker and Health Minister, V Sudheeran.
