BHUBANESWAR: With the Internet connectivity down and anxious moments passing by after the declaration of CHSE results, she waited fingers crossed hoping for the best. The anxious moments gave way to celebration as Soumya Sandipa, Science stream topper, learnt from the TV channels that she had topped.“I was hoping to figure among the Top-20, but topper was something I never imagined. It was only after my neighbours rushed in exclaiming that my name was flashing across TV channels did the realisation sink in,” said a visibly pleased Soumya. Passing out of BJB Junior College, Soumya wants to follow in her father’s footsteps of becoming a civil engineer. “I have always had a liking for civil engineering and am presently awaiting AIEEE results,” she added. It was friends who had a greater premonition that she would be a State topper and proving friends right is the best feeling, she explained.Upholding the standards of Saraswati Vidyamandir were two students who got place in the top-10 ranks of the State. Sankha Sai Sandeep of Saraswati Vidyamandir, Nilakanthanagar, was ranked fourth in Science with a score of 550. Sai, who belongs to Mukhiguda of Kalahandi district, stayed at the school hostel to pursue his education. “I was expecting to be in the top-20, but had no idea I could make it to the top-5,” said Sai. Sai said he wants to pursue mechanical or electrical and communication engineering. Parents were ecstatic after learning about the news, said Sai adding sheer grit to perform well brought him to this level.Subhasis Nayak of the same school scored sixth rank in Science stream with a total marks of 543. Subhasis hails from Kabisuryanagar of Ganjam district. “I was hoping for top five, but my marks in English were not good enough pushing my rank down in the overall list,” said Subhasis.
