KOTTAYAM/KOCHI: Advocate-General K P Dandapani, who is in the eye of a storm, will explain his stand before a special Cabinet convened on Monday.Chief Minister Oommen Chandy directed the Advocate-General to appear before the Cabinet after the latter met him at his residence at Puthuppally on Sunday.Chandy asked Dandapani to convince the Council of Ministers of his position.“I have told the AG that I will not be able to take a decision on my own with regard to the controversial statements. The AG has been asked to appear before the Cabinet and clarify his stand with the other Cabinet colleagues,” he said.In a bid to clarify his stand, Dandapani accompanied by two additional AGs - P C Iype and K A Jaleel - met the Chief Minister. They held a closed-door meeting for about 15 minutes. The Advocate-General is learned to have apprised the Chief Minister about the statement that has snowballed into a major controversy and has put the government in a fix.The Advocate-General reportedly told the Chief Minister that he had not done anything wrong and that he was not against the interests of the state. Dandapani also said that he had never misled the court on the Mullaperiyar issue and it was a section of the media that had misinterpreted his statement. The Cabinet on Monday is likely to take strong action against Dandapani for his controversial remarks, as the AG has made it clear that he would not resign.
