Bangalore airport wins Green Company certification
BIA) has become the country's first firm to receive 'Green Company' distinction from the CII.

BANGALORE: The Bangalore International Airport (BIA) has become the country’s first firm to receive ‘Green Company’ distinction from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The company on Thursday announced that it has received the certification from the Green Building Council (GBC) of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as a Green Company in adherence to its GreenCo Rating System.The rating system assesses and analyses the environmental impact of the  company’s entire activities or operations. This rating helps in defining the path forward to ecologically sustainable business growth.The certification programme was launched by the Union Minister for Energy in February last year. Making the announcement, S Raghupathy, executive director, CII-Godrej GBC said, “Bengaluru International Airport Limited  (BIAL) has demonstrated passion and commitment towards fostering and promoting ecological sustainability in Indian industry. We are confident that in the days to come, many more companies will tread the same green path and pave way for a safe and sustainable tomorrow and demonstrate that green makes good business sense.”BIAL officials said that they would continue to work  towards employing more green ideas in their functioning. “We see this rating as a testimony towards our efforts in building an energy efficient and green airport,” said Sanjay Reddy, Managing Director, BIAL.The Green Rating System advocates a performance- based approach and advises businesses on strategy and actions  required. Also, provides mechanisms to quantify the impact of such actions and corrections.
