Bangalore: The Karnataka government has decided to dismiss services of the doctors who have been on an unauthorised absence for a long spell, Health Minister R Ashok said on Saturday.
Health department officials have been asked to compile a list of doctors who have absented themselves from duties without sanctioned leave and submit them to the government for action, he said.
A total of 175 doctors have already been dimissed from service on similar grounds. The government has also initiated steps to recruit 500 doctors, he said.
Meanwhile, the Chikungunya disease that has batterred parts of north and central Karnataka has been brought under control, Ashok said.
He added that the state and Maharastra have decided to work jointly to contain the epidemic.
He denied there was any shortage of medicine for treating Chikungunya and adequate funds had been released in the affected districts to implement preventive measures.
Ashok appealed to medicos on strike to protest against proposed reserations for OBCs in elite institutions to call off their agitation. He also asked the Centre to find a solution to the problem as soon as possible.
