BBMP to present budget today

BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will finally present its budget for the year 2011-12 on Thursday.In the last year’s budget, despite going through fund crunch, BBMP presented the unrealistic budget which was over `8,500 crore. This year too BBMP is expected to present the budget of similar amount, sources from BBMP said.BBMP official sources said that they have asked the State Government to provide atleast `30,00 crore. However, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has not reacted positively so far. “CM told us that he will discuss the matter with the officials before budget presentation. But so far he has not respoonded,” sources said.‘We need time to discuss’When contacted, M Uday Shankar, Opposition Leader, BBMP said that as a formality, the ruling party is supposed to give the budget proforma to the opposition parties. “We need time to discuss the content of the budget and come to common grounds to agree with the budget. We have asked the Commissioner, Mayor and Deputy Mayor to give us a week’s time after budget is presented,” he said.
