BALASORE: Balasore is not impressed. The Odisha Tourism Development Corporation’s decision to open a beer parlour inside the Panthaniwas is being vehemently opposed by the denizens with a protest lodged with the district collector. Sources said the OTDC had recently applied to the excise superintendent to allow a beer parlour at Panthaniwas. It is alleged that the superintendent without calling for a public hearing recommended the collector for issuing the licence. The parlour is reportedly being planned at the conference hall. The residents led by Jana Jagaran Manch have criticised the decision stating that many government offices and educational institutions are in the vicinity of the Panthaniwas. However, OTDC Chairman Jyotiskar Mohapatra said a final decision is yet to be taken. “It is not a liquor outlet. A beer parlour has been proposed. Such parlours are now functioning at Panthaniwas in other areas of the State,” he reasoned.
