The official announcement of the much-awaited recounting of votes of Bellary MP election which will be held on September 15 at Rao Bahaddur Y Mahabaleshwarappa Engineering College was announced on Saturday.
Deputy Commissioner Amlan Aditya Biswas said that the recounting report will be sent to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on the same day for its nod to officially announce the result.
In a joint press meet with Superintendent of Police Chandragupta, Amlan said along with over 330 election staff, two senior IAS officers and a senior officer of the ECI will come here on the designated date as observers.
A letter from the ECI arrived on Wednesday and arrangements are being made as per the ECI guidelines. “Except the election agent of the candidates, no one else will be permitted in the counting centre, including elected representatives,” he said.
The counting will be over in 14 to 18 rounds in a span of three hours. “The entire procedure, including attaching 17 C form to Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) in front of the candidates will be filmed,” he said.
“At present, the EVMs are in the treasury. It will be shifted to the strong room of the recounting centre on Thursday with police security,” said Amlan.
Over 1,000 police personnel, including officers will be deployed on the day of the counting. Prohibitory orders will also be imposed in some areas to prevent any untoward incident, said Chandragupta.
