Kolkata: A city-based rights group on Thursday approached West Bengal Governor K.N. Tripathi seeking removal of state minister Rachpal Singh who was caught on camera getting his shoe laces tied by his security guard.
In a letter to Tripathi, Association for Protection of Democratic Rights (APDR) said the behaviour of Singh - the state planning and development minister - was a gross violation of human rights of the police personnel.
"Singh's behaviour is unbecoming of a minister and gross violation of human rights of the police personnel in particular and of all subordinate policemen in general," said APDR secretary Ranjit Sur.
"While there has been no apology from Singh, we found no public condemnation from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee too. There is no report of the chief minister having rebuked Singh for this inhuman behaviour," he said in the letter.
Seeking Tripathi's intervention in the matter, the APDR called for Singh's removal from the council of ministers - "for not being cultured enough to be a minister".
Singh, a legislator from Tarakeshwar and a former IPS officer, has been facing flak after one of his security guards seen tying his shoelaces at the state secretariat, Nabanna on Monday.
