KOCHI: The State Commissionerate for the physically-challenged has decided to convene a joint meeting of the KSRTC and NATPAC officials to ensure better travel facilities for physically-challenged people in Ernakulam. The meeting would look into possible steps in finding solutions to various issues in this regard.A meeting of the top officials of the State Commissionerate for the physically-challenged, which met in Kochi the other day, decided to introduce various new facilities at schools, government institutions, film theatres, parks and other public places in the district.A decision was made to check whether the height of footboards in buses can be reduced. Also, it was decided to take strong action against undeserving individuals enjoying facilities meant for the physically-challenged. The meeting further decided to take measures to prevent attacks against the disabled.As part of the initiative, the commissionerate would carry out detailed inspection into available facilities for physically-challenged students in schools. If these are found to be inadequate, immediate steps would be taken to rectify them, said State Commissioner N Ahmed Pillai. He further instructed the officials concerned to ensure convenience of physically-challenged in new buildings.
