Binayak case: protests, black flags greet EU team
Binayak Sen bail hearing is scheduled to take place at Chhattisgarh HC on Monday.

New Delhi: Protests and black flags greeted the eight-member team from the European Union who arrived in Raipur on Sunday night. The EU delegation, which include representatives of Delhi based diplomatic missions from Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Sweden and the UK, has come to witness human rights activist Binayak Sen's bail hearing.

The hearing is scheduled to take place at the Chhattisgarh High Court in Bilaspur on Monday.

They were accompanied by BJP's own MP lawyer Ram Jethmalani. Among those waving black flags were members of the BJP's student wing the ABVP and members of the bar council.

The protestors alleged that the European Union intends to influence the judicial process in India.

Sen's bail plea is coming up for hearing exactly one month after he was convicted for sedition and sentencing to life imprisonment.

Civil rights activists have been demanding his release since the sentencing.
