Party to protest in states capitals against the Election Commission ordering FIR against Rajnath Singh.

New Delhi: The BJP will organise protests in states capitals on Monday to protest against a police complaint that has been lodged against him on the Election Commission’s order.

The First Information Report (FIR) at Lucknow's Hazratganj police station has been filed in connection with a CD which denigrates Muslims.

BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the FIR, which accuses Singh of spreading hatred, has been lodged despite the party's explanation to the Election Commission that CD was "inadvertently" released without the knowledge of senior leaders and was not part of the campaign material.

The moment it came to the notice of senior leaders, it was withdrawn, much before the Commission took cognizance of it, Javdekar added.

The first FIR, filed on April 5 at Lucknow's Hazratganj police station, does not name anyone. The police named Singh in the second FIR lodged the next day and slapped various sections of IPC and Representation of People Act--some of which are non-bailable and entail three years jail term,

Javdekar said.

He said the FIR was "a malicious design" of the ruling Samajwadi Party in the Uttar Pradesh and other "pseudo-secular" parties. "Same action was not initiated against Lalu Yadav who used a Godhra CD in Bihar elections for divisive politics," Javadekar said.

UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav sought votes on caste plank, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar offered sugar sops, Lalu distributed cash before polls, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi used a state aircraft in Chhattisgarh elections, but no FIR was lodged, he alleged.

Senior party leaders L K Advani, M Venkaiah Naidu, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi will reach Lucknow to give moral support to the party president, Javadekar said.

Dismissing calls for "derecognition" of BJP given by other parties in the wake of the CD controversy, Javadekar said such a call was "a worst type of appeasement politics."
