New Delhi: Exactly a month and much of anxious waiting, BlackBerry has finally announced the official resumption of the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) for Android and iPhone rollout. But not all Android and iPhone users will be able to use the service right away. BlackBerry will be rolling it out in phases.
To install BBM for Android or iPhone visit BBM.com from your mobile phone browser and it will redirect you to the Google Play/iPhone App Store location.
In a post on the official BlackBerry blog, BBM head Andrew Bocking said that "in the next few hours, people will start seeing BBM in Google Play, the App Store and in select Samsung App Stores - where it will be free to download."
While users will be able to download and install the app when it is available on the app stores, they will first need to enter their emails in the app and wait in the virtual queue. BlackBerry will inform when they get to use the app. But this restriction does not apply to people who had already signed up at BBM.com.
As previously reported, more than a million users had in a matter of seven hours installed an unreleased version of BBM for Android, that went on to scuttle the initial BBM launch. Bocking also added that "one million people have found creative ways to 'side load' BBM on their iPhone."
BlackBerry's chief marketing officer Frank Boulben had about a week ago said that he expected the app to be available "within days," and we had also reported when BlackBerry had resumed beta testing for the Android app.
We will be back with further updates on the availability of BBM for Android and BBM for iPhone. You can keep a tab here or follow us on Twitter.
