United Nations: Several Bollywood stars, including Amitabh Bachchan, Nana Patekar, Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, are joining the United Nations effort to curb human trafficking in India. Starting Friday, moviegoers will see a two-minute video called 'One Life, No Price' aimed at raising awareness of this form of modern slavery before the start of new movie 'Welcome' in 1,100 theatres.
The stars featured include Feroz Khan, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Paresh Rawal and Mallika Sherawat. Khan, Kapoor, Patekar, Kumar and Kaif are also recording separate messages in support of the cause.
Other Bollywood stars, including Amitabh Bachchan, Preity Zinta and John Abraham, have also been enlisted to make public service announcements to fight trafficking.
The partnership of United Nations' Office on Drug Control with the Indian film industry is part of a broader programme called UN.GIFT, which was launched this March to bring governments, the private sector, academia, civil society and the media together to combat the scourge of human trafficking.
