RAJAHMUNDRY: PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana, who is on a whirlwind tour of East Godavari district with an intention to galvanise the party workers to face by- elections if acceptance of pro-Jagan Mohan Reddy MLAs leads to it, drew a good response to his whistle-stop meetings at Amalapuram, Draksharamam and Ravulapalem. The PCC chief took enough care to focus on "corruption" of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the new-found strength of the party following PRP's merger with it.Attacking the MLAs who resigned in support of Jagan, Botcha said, "I am asking the MLAs why they resigned when people had elected them for a term of five years. What have you done for the people during the last one year except being too preoccupied with your leader?" He also made an attempt to bring a contrast to what Jagan Mohan Reddy was doing and what was happening across the nation."Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is facing serious charges of corruption and his MLAs are going to the people for support at a time when people were fighting against corruption under leaders like Anna Hazare," he said, wondering how the J camp leaders had thought that the people would accept them. Claiming that the merger with PRP bolstered Congress' strength, the PCC chief said his party had a clear edge over YSR Congress.Meetings on Congress-PRP merger will be held in the districts up to September 2. Plans were afoot to appoint party in-charges in the Assembly constituencies which were being represented by pro-Jagan MLAs, he said.Referring to the plight of the farmers in the district, he said the government was seized of their problems.Since it cannot implement the Swaminathan Committee's recommendations, it appointed the Mohan Kanda Committee to find ways of making farming remunerative. Before setting out on his second day's tour, the PCC president, speaking to mediapersons at Kakinada, said the interests of workers, whom he described as the lifeline of the party, would be taken care of."Deserving party workers will be considered for nominated posts soon," he said.Satyanarayana was accompanied on his tour by finance minister and in-charge district minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, animal husbandry minister Pinipe Viswaroop, and stamps & registration minister Thota Narasimham.
