BANGALORE: Chairman of Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) S R Nayak on Monday visited the spot, where 12-year- old Sandeep drowned in a pit in Kempe Gowda Ground at SVK Layout in Kurubarahalli, in the wee hours of Sunday. He inspected the spot and said that the death was caused duo to the culpable negligence of officials who were in charge of the construction of Kempe Gowda Auditorium. “The commission has already taken up a suo-moto case in connection with the incident. The place belongs to BBMP and the construction work of the auditorium was given to Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL). Further it had given the work to a contractor. However, all the three agencies will be given notice in connection with the incident,” Nayak said.Meanwhile, he also added that he had asked the IGP of the commission to submit a report in a few days about the incident. “The BBMP commissioner will be issued a notice soon asking an explanation about the incident,” Nayak added.He also explained that two pits for installations of pillar was dug about two months back and there was no safety measures in the site. “The ground is easily accessible to all. The officials have neither fenced the area nor put up a caution board asking the public to stay away from the pit,” Nayak said.As the BBMP officials were giving a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh to the family of the deceased, Nayak asked the officials to give a minimum of Rs. 5 lakh as compensation as RS. 1 lakh was inadequtae.
