Milan: Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, preparing for the World Cup finals, spoke to investigators on Wednesday as part of a probe into soccer gambling.

Buffon made no comment after leaving the meeting but one of his lawyers, Valerio Corini, said the keeper had "clarified every aspect of the affair". Buffon is not under investigation and met prosecutors as a 'person who may be informed of the facts'.

After the meeting he left Parma to rejoin Italy's World Cup squad at its headquarters at Coverciano in Tuscany.

"There is no investigation that involves Buffon here at Parma, so Gigi can concentrate on the World Cup," said Corini.

The Juventus goalkeeper, who was accompanied by Italy team manager Gigi Riva, has denied any wrongdoing.

After volunteering to give a statement to Turin magistrates this month, Buffon said any bets he made were on foreign games at a time when they did not break Italy's strict gambling regulations.

Last week the Italian Football Federation said they saw no reason why Buffon should not be included in Marcello Lippi's 23-man squad for the World Cup, which starts on June 9.

The Parma investigation is not connected to the widespread probe by Rome and Naples magistrates into allegations of match-fixing.
