The Central Crime Branch on Tuesday registered a case against 14 people, including former DMK minister Parithi Ilamvazhuthi and his personal assistant T Gagarin, in connection with usurping of a land worth Rs 200 crore in Villivakkam.
The action comes following a Madras High Court direction to do so. Police said 7.45-acre land was assigned to Dharmathope Arakattalai, Villivakkam by the government in 1875. The trust maintains a temple through which ‘anna dhanam’ and other medical camps for people were conducted.
Police sources said a complaint was lodged claiming that 5.5-acre land was allegedly usurped by certain persons with the help of former DMK minister Parithi Illamvazhuthi through fake documents. The land was in turn sold to a well-known private construction company.
S Ranga Reddy, the trustee of Dharmathope Arakattalai, Villivakkam lodged a complaint with tahsildar in December, 2010 and later with the Chennai city police. The trustee was threatened to withdraw the complaint, police sources alleged.
Ranga Reddy filed a petition at the Madras High Court seeking directions to the police to register a case and take action. Following the court order, the police registered a case against 14 persons, including the former DMK minister and his personal assistant under IPC sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 465 (punishment for forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable, security, will etc) and 506 (1) (punishment for criminal intimidation).
