The Chhattisgarh High Court has asked the secretary of the Public Works Department to submit a report on the condition of roads in the city within ten days.
The division bench of Justices Sunil Kumar Sinha and Inder Singh Uboweja sought the report on Thursday in response to a public interest litigation on poor quality of roads in the city and other issues leading to traffic woes, said advocate Matin Siddhiqui, the petitioners' lawyer.
The Ex- Servicemen Officers Welfare Association and others filed the petitions in 2011 contending that underground sewage works, poor-quality roads and the stray cattle were causing traffic snarls in the city.
On August 21, 2013, the court had asked Bilaspur municipal corporation and the state government to submit a status report on the under-construction sewage works and the roads, he said.
The corporation submitted its report but the state government failed, following which the court had asked the secretary, PWD to appear on April 2.
On Thursday, PWD secretary RP Mandal appeared before the bench, which sought a status report on the condition of roads in the city, and when they would be repaired/constructed.
