within a month, sources said.
However, news channels airing the footage will be penalised if it’s found that the clipping was doctored.
Television channels aired footage showing police gunning down a criminal, Pintoo Mishra, in the posh civil lines area in September last though he had raised his arms up and wanted to surrender.
The victim is said to have killed a policeman before he was shot.
Uttar Pradesh DGP, Vikram Singh, has said action would be taken against the culprits within a month.
"Police officials have zero tolerance to human rights violation. Whosoever it is, the punishment for any crime would be same. Since the tape is dated a year ago, so I cannot comment on the issue," he said.
National Human Rights Commission Chairman, Justice Rajendra Babu in Bangalore was quoted by PTI as saying that the commission would take the "strongest possible action" in this matter.
