HYDERABAD: The residents of the new colonies in the periphery of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits which do not have water supply and sewerage facilities may get them soon. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) is going to initiate a new scheme called Total Infrastructure Project (TIP) using public contribution to put up water supply and sewerage facilities in these colonies.Under the TIP programme, 30 per cent of the infrastructure costs will be borne by the residential welfare colonies while 70 per cent will be spent by the department concerned. The TIP project will be grounded in the next two to three months.Speaking to Express, HMWS&SB director (Technical), Prabhakar Sarma said that through GHMC, Water Board has identified as many as 800 new colonies that have come up in the outskirts of the city. In a majority of them, there are no water supply and sewerage facilities. On request from the GHMC, the Water Board will lay water supply lines in a phase manner costing about Rs 200 crore. The sewerage lines will be laid later. The officials have already started dialogue with members of 200 residential welfare associations and of them 20 to 30 colonies have come forward to contribute 30 per cent of their share. Colonies who cannot contribute 30 per cent at a time can do it in installments, Sarma said.
