Cook murdered in drunken brawl

CHENNAI: The busy Millers Road in Kilpauk witnessed a shocking sight on Sunday evening, when an autorickshaw driver chased his friend with a beer bottle after a drunken brawl and stabbed him to death.According to sources, the victim Manibharathi (21) undertook catering orders and stayed with his mother Nalini (50) at Semmanpettai near Kellys. On Sunday evening, Mani and his friend Irudayaraj (39), an auto driver, went to a Tasmac shop on Millers Road to have a drink. Mani bought a bottle and poured the drink into two glasses. Irudayaraj gulped down both glasses, which led to an altercation between the friends. An enraged Mani slapped the auto driver and left the shop.A little later, a tipsy Irudayaraj chased him with a beer bottle. On nearing Mani, he smashed the bottle on the road and stabbed him in the stomach and thigh with the broken shard and twisted it.While a profusely bleeding Mani died on the spot, members of the public called the police.Inspector Ravikumar (incharge) arrived at the spot and sent Mani’s body to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Irudayaraj was taken into custody, the sources said.
