It was after a long wait that the platinum jubilee memorial gate of the Corporation office was completed last month. After getting redemption from the lagging work, suspense still remains over its official inauguration.
Though the officials had promised to open the gate in three weeks, now the inauguration has been postponed to November 1, which marks two years of the start of its construction. The presence of the hand rails on the footpath in front of the gate and the fountain behind have been delaying the inauguration.
“The allied works, which include making arrangements for parking lots on the office premises, would be completed in October. The hand rails on the footpaths would be removed in the final stage,” said Corporation works standing committee chairman V S Padmakumar.
Work on reducing the area of the fountain has already begun and the shifting of the hand rails is being handled by Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB). “We have received an estimate on Thursday. Soon after sanctioning it, the work to shift the hand rails would start,” said an official with KRFB.
It was by spending Rs 7.55 lakh that the gate with an entrance in traditional Kerala style design was completed. The present entrance near the new gate would be closed with the inauguration. By laying interlocking tiles, the office campus will also be beautified.
