New Delhi: A Delhi court on Saturday allowed disgraced former Commomwealth Games chairman Suresh Kalmadi, who is lodged in Tihar jail on corruption charges, to undergo an MRI brain scan on the prison medical superintendent's advice.
Special CBI Judge Talwant Singh directed the Tihar jail authorities to get the scan of 66-year-old Kalmadi done at a government hospital and file the MRI report in the court by July 21.
"Medical report has been received from the medical officer Central Jail no. 4 (where Kalmadi is lodged). Accused was advised MRI scan of brain. The jail authorities and those at the LNJP Hospital are directed to ensure MRI scan of brain of the accused is done and report filed in court on July 21, 2011," Special CBI Judge Talwant Singh said.
The court said in case the MRI scan is not performed at the LNJP hospital, then the jail superintendent would take Kalmadi to AIIMS for the same.
The court, however, refused Kalmadi's plea to get the scan done at a private hospital.
Kalmadi was earlier also taken to DDU hospital after he complained of dizziness.
The court on July 14 had asked for a medical report from the jail on an application moved by Kalmadi for medical examination and treatment.
