A special court here on Friday ordered confiscation of properties worth Rs 35.75 lakh belonging to Indore Development Authority's (IDA) Estate Officer Babulal Gothwal and directed the government to use it in public interest.
Special Judge Avnindra Kumar Singh ordered confiscation of properties worth Rs 35.75 lakh of Gothwal after finding that it was highly disproportionate to known sources of his income which was allegedly amassed through unfair means.
Special Public Prosecutor R N Bhargava told reporters that the court set up under the Madhya Pradesh Special Court Act 2011, ordered seizure of movable and immovable assets of Gothwal which include two houses, three plots, jewellery worth Rs 2,97,926, Rs 3,85,950 in cash and Rs 2,39,035 in bank deposits.
The court ordered authorities to hand over these properties to Indore district administration by September 8, so that it can be used in public interest.
Gothwal started his career as a stenographer and later promoted upto the post of Estate Officer Class 2.
The Lokayukta police raided his house on August 25, 2009 after a complaint.
