The bail application filed by CPM district secretary P Jayarajan was rejected by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court (1) here on Saturday. The court had considered his bail plea on Friday, but the Special Public Prosecutor had asked the court to postpone consideration of the bail petition to Saturday till the receipt of the police report.
B P Saseendran, counsel for Jayarajan, argued that he had no role in Shukkoor murder case.
He said his client had objected to collection of funds using mosques for the Shukkoor case and some of the activities of Congress leader K Sudhakaran MP, and these were the reasons for implicating him in the Shukkoor murder case.
The pressure exerted by the government was another reason for the case against Jayarajan, argued his counsel. Pleading for bail to his client, B P Saseendran stated that Jayarajan had been undergoing cardiac treatment for the past several years.
Countering the arguments, Special Public Prosecutor C K Sreedharan said Jayarajan was arrested on the basis of evidence in the case.
He also argued that since Jayarajan is the leader of an influential political party in the district, the other suspects and witnesses in the case are likely to be harassed. He said 157 cases were filed in connection with the violent incidents that followed the arrest of Jayarajan. He also argued that Jayarajan had no problems of health and that he shouldn’t be granted bail. The bail plea was rejected by the court following the arguments. An appeal will be filed in the High Court soon.
