New Delhi: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Saturday defended itself a day after the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) report highlighted the use of substandard material in the construction and renovation of stadiums for the Commonwealth Games. The NDMC said that strength test was conducted for Shivaji Stadium and there was no problem in the material used.
"Six months back, the chief technical examiner of CVC had sent us a report. This was with regards to the construction of Shivaji Stadium. We conducted a tube test after getting the report and sent the results back to CVC. No problems were found in the tests done," said Anand Kumar Tiwari, Staff Officer to NDMC Chairman Parimal Rai.
The CVC report did not name any particular stadium. The reports said that it found a range of discrepancies which included a cost over-run of over 200 per cent on rentals and substandard firms winning contracts.
The CVC report also claimed that different rates were paid for the same set of items and in some cases, the discrepancy was much as 30 per cent.
Meanwhile, SIS Live, the UK-based company, which had the sole broadcasting rights for Commonwealth Games with a Rs 246 crore contract, also refuted allegations of impropriety saying the deal was transparent.
"SIS Live has kept proper accounts and copies of bills. These are administered by our central service centre in the UK, and operated online from India. Since the I-T Department visit to our project office in Delhi on October 5, we have provided all the documents requested - over 2,500 - within the agreed timescale. All accusation are unqualified and we have paid all service taxes as per schedule," SIS live said in a statement.
