KOCHI: The state government will order a CBI probe into the handing over of the operations of the State Data Centre (SDC) and the three Network Operations Centres to Reliance Communication by the previous LDF government. This was submitted before the High Court by the state government on Thursday. The Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice P R Ramachandra Menon disposed of the petition filed by Government Chief Whip P C George after recording the submission made by the government.George had sought a CBI probe into the role of then chief minister V S Achuthanandan and four others- former director of the Kerala State IT Mission Retan Khelkar, former IT secretary Ajay Kumar, T G Nandakumar and Mohan Sukumar- in the awarding of the tender.According to him, the decision to hand over the management of SDC to Reliance was taken by Achuthanandan, before the change in the government. He alleged that, as the data centre kept detailed information about all the government offices and officials, handing over it to a private company had posed a big security risk.He said that Achuthanandan and mediators, T G Nandakumar of Ernakulam and Mohan Sukumar (son of former director-general of Prosecution Kallada Sukumaran), were highly influential and an unbiased investigation could not be expected from the state government. Besides, many of the current senior police and Vigilance officers were appointed by Achuthanandan when he was the chief minister, the petitioner pointed out.
