New Delhi: A seven-year-old boy, who suffered burns in a cylinder blast at his house on May 22 night, died at a hospital, police said on Sunday. The victim, identified as Ranjeet, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital on Saturday afternoon. Police have registered a complaint based on statement of Ranjeet's mother.

A police officer said the victim's mother has accused the gas agency of negligence for the accident. A case of negligent conduct with respect to fire has been registered at Narela police station. The investigation into the matter is on.

As per the police, Ranjeet's father Ashok was away when the accident took place around 9 pm on May 22. Police said that the boy was watching television in the drawing room while his mother was cooking in kitchen on the first floor of the building.

The boy's mother had gone out of the kitchen to drink water and when she returned, she found that the cooking gas cylinder was leaking. "Before she could react, the cylinder exploded, setting the house on fire. The woman managed to escape, but Ranjeet could not," the police said, adding that he was rushed to a hospital in outer Delhi's Bawana area.

The boy was soon referred to Lok Nayak Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday, the officer added.
