New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has promised action against private schools which are charging as much 16 times what the forms should cost for nursery admissions.
Reacting to the Cobrapost-CNN-IBN expose, Sheila asked for the CDs of the report and said she will take action against the erring schools.
A government rule states that the admission forms shouldn't cost more than Rs 25 but the report showed how some schools are making parents pay as much as Rs 400 for the same.
The schools have been violating the Delhi School Education Act. In 1997, a court ruling had specified that registration charges in private school should not exceed Rs 25.
Prominent schools like Apeejay in Sheikh Sarai and Red Roses Public School in Saket are selling forms at rate much higher than specified.
These schools are taking advantage of the fact that there is no mention of a prospectus or other documents other than the form in the Act and its charges have not been specified. Now schools are taking advantage of this very loophole.
