New Delhi: Delhi and its adjoining areas woke up to heavy rains on Thursday which brought much-needed respite from summer heat but led to crippling commuting problems.
Waterlogging was reported in several areas of Delhi-NCR, including South Extension, Moolchand Underpass, Mayur Vihar Phase 2, Lajpat Nagar, Patparganj, IP Extension and Noida Sectors 12, 16, 18 and 52.

Rush-hour traffic on arterial roads was affected as motorists tried to negotiate potholes in knee-deep water.
Several schools in Delhi and Noida declared a holiday sending early morning messages to parents.

Autorickshaw drivers were quick to cash in, with many charging exorbitant fares even on short routes.

Till 8:30am, the Safadarjung observatory, the official one for Delhi, received 25.8 mm rainfall while the Palam one received 6.4mm. Approximately 3.4mm rainfall was recorded at the Lodhi road observatory and 10.2 mm in Ayanagar. The Ridge station recorded 2.8mm.
The showers brought down the minimum temperature to 25.2 degree Celsius, two notches below the season's average. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 35 degrees.
"It was drizzling here since early Thursday morning. City witnessed 25.8 mm rainfall till Thursday 8.30 am.," said an official of the India Meteorological Department.
Humidity at 8.30 am was 98%.
The Met department has predicted light rains for the next 24 hours.
