In India, the wedding rituals and clothes form an integral part of the wedding. For any bride, marriage seems incomplete without the typical wedding dress. Being the most important day of our lives, choosing the perfect wedding dress does takes a lot of time. Of course, a bride is the centre of attraction on this auspicious occasion. Having said that, a lot of young women, these days, opt for a contemporary look on their D-Day. Not only do they have a theme wedding, they also go for a different mix of fabrics, designs and silhouettes for their bridal attire.  Says Arti Bagdy, who recently exhibited a range of wedding collections from across the country, “Gone are the days, when a bride had to wear the typical pattu sari or the jarring red ghagra with heavy gold jewellery. Nowadays, bridal dresses range from traditional Kanjiveeram and festive collections to elegant designer wear. Every young bride wants has become fashion conscious, and  would like to coordinate her jewellery with each outfit.”Also, Kolkata-based designer Reeta Singhania showcased her wedding collection at a recent show. The collection comprised delicate nets, zardosi designs, heavy sequined embroidery in subtle colours like white, pink, yellow and blue. “The trend is changing  and these days, brides prefer white and black blended with bright colours for their wedding. Having said that, net is always in and embroidery and prints on net are a hit among today’s brides,” she says. Over the years, the contemporary designs have become a haven for fashionistas and designers, with an unmatched collection of jewellery and accessories. Taking that into account, even Kanjiveeram saris have abstract designs that have embroidery and stones embedded on the fabric. Also, wedding saris are teamed with a range of fabrics and stoles with an eclectic mix of design elements inspired from nature. They focus on unique techniques like shibori, karigars and jacquard, studded with crystals to add glamour to the bridal attire. A wide selection of handcrafted  blouses that can be matched with your saris is also in vogue. So, if it’s your wedding next month, it’s obviously a big day for you. Therefore, don’t hesitate to spend some time trying out different looks and finding what makes you feel beautiful and comfortable.[email protected]
