HYDERABAD: The Central Administrative Tribunal on Thursday adjourned the hearing of the petition against the appointment of V Dinesh Reddy as the director-general of police (HoPF) ) to August 26 with the three respondents, _ Dinesh Reddy, state government and central government _ seeking time to file an affidavit. Jonnalagadda Sudheer, advocate of the petitioner and principal secretary (home) P Gautam Kumar, said the state government had to file an affidavit in response to the petition. The three respondents sought some time and the CAT members adjourned the case for one week,’’ he said. A petition was filed by Gautam Kumar challenging the appointment of Dinesh Reddy as the director-general of police (head of police force) on July 8 and the CAT issued notices to Dinesh Reddy, state government and the central government on July 13.Sudheer said the petition was filed on the ground that the Supreme Court’s guidelines given in Prakash Singh’s case were not followed while appointing Dinesh Reddy. “The state government does not want to send its list to the UPSC as it wants to choose an officer for the post of DGP (HOPF) to suit its convenience,’’ Sudheer said and cited the appointments of previous DGPs RR Girish Kumar and K Aravinda Rao. Gutam Kumar, a 1975-batch IPS officer, had earlier challenged before the CAT appointment of Aravinda Rao as the state police chief and had got an order in his favour in May this year after the CAT quashed Rao’s appointment.
