ALAPPUZHA: Taking a cue from recent reports on the health hazards resulting from incessant use of mobile phones, the Alappuzha district police has decided to cut short the use of mobile phones among the police personnel in the district. Alappuzha Superintendent of Police C H Nagaraju has directed all his subordinates to avoid use of mobile phones except in emergencies. At a meeting held here the other day, SP Nagaraju has instructed the police officers in the district to send SMSes to inform official matters to the SP and their colleagues rather than making calls. Nagaraju told Express that the police personnel were facing several health problems owing to the continuous use of mobile phones.“I have asked them to send SMSes if they need to inform anything. There was even a session to teach the officials about the format to sent the text,” he said. The directive has come as a relief to many officials who are facing health issues owing to the continuous use of mobile phones. “I spend a lot of time making calls in mobile phone. The new directive is helpful,” Kayamkulam DySP D Suneesh Kumar told Express.
