Dr. Nadig Saraswati Chandrashekhar is a resident of 3rd Cross, R.P. Road, Nanjangud, Karnataka. Around ten years ago while she was roaming in the local area, she suffered a mild heart attack and collapsed. Two auto drivers who were present in the area quickly took her to the hospital, saving her life. Thanks to their timely assistance, she survived without major health complications.

To thank the auto drivers who saved her life, she decided to support the auto drivers. Dr. Nadig Saraswati often organises various welfare events. She also personally provided five auto rickshaws to five young men to help them earn their living. The woman reportedly charges just Rs 200 as rent for the auto rickshaws. Additionally, she has also learned to drive an auto rickshaw herself.

Her relatives also support her for the good work she does. She and her relatives have reportedly formed a trust where they contribute monthly to carry out the welfare events. The group comprises 30 members and each person donates Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 every month. The collected funds are used for the welfare of the auto drivers and their families. Around 50 drivers in the Nanjangud town get assistance from this initiative. Based on their needs, she provides financial help to the auto drivers.

For her good work, Dr Nadig Saraswati was honoured with an honorary doctorate by the Asia International Cultural Research University. Her husband is a retired person. She earns her living by selling pickles and papads. She is called by the name ‘Auto Amma’ by the auto drivers. She is often praised by the locals of the place for what she does for these auto drivers.
