CHENNAI: With a vision to recognise and promote outstanding innovations that are bringing about social change in India, EdelGive Foundation, a part of Edelweiss Financial Services Limited announced the commencement of the EdelGive Social Innovation Honours 2012 — Innovations for Women Empowerment. Over the last three years, EdelGive Social Innovation awards has given away `1.81 crore as prize money and has recognised the outstanding work done by the participating NGOs. Vidya Shah, Executive Director and Head, EdelGive Foundation said “Despite being a growing economy, over 50 per cent of girls in India still fail to enroll in schools and one in seven girls in rural India are married before the age of 13. Over the past three years, through the ESIH awards we have recognised, promoted and supported organisations that are innovating to tackle these issues.”Winners will be selected across four categories such as health and well being, education, economic security and livelihoods and rights and representation of women. There are four stages of evaluation by an internal jury, field visit by faculty from Tata Institute of Social Sciences and an external jury comprising government, corporate and media personalities. Last date for registering nominations for the Awards is September 23, 2011.
