Elephant tramples mentally-ill to death

PALANI: A mentally-ill beggar was trampled to death by an elephant near Palani on Tuesday.Herds of wild elephants are roaming near Palaru Porundalaru dam. On Tuesday morning, about 55-year-old mentally-affected beggar had been moving around Koliparai near the dam. He had seen a herd of elephants and had stood without moving to safety from the place.One of the elephants had trampled him to death. Contractors, who went to collect sand, had found the body of the man and informed the forest department officials. Ranger Dharmaraj and other officers conducted inquiries and buried the body, there itself.
