Mumbai: An engine of a Riyadh-bound Air India plane with 213 passengers on board caught fire when it was taxiing for take-off on Friday.

The fire was immediately put off and all passengers were safely evacuated, a Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) spokesperson said.

A press release by the Air India management read: An incident of fire in the Riyadh-bound AI flight took place at 10:50 am at the Mumbai airport on Friday. The fire was promptly extinguished. All passengers were immediately evacuated. They will be sent to Riyadh by an alternate aircraft later today.

This incident brings back memories of earlier fire incidences in flights:
