London: The England and Wales Cricket Board has denied that its women players resorted to sledging during their recent home series against India.
The ECB came to the defence of its players after Indian captain Mithali Raj accused the hosts of using foul language during matches.
But a board statement said: "At no point did any England player breach the ICC Code of Conduct nor were any players approached by the umpires throughout the series. No England women's player has had any disciplinary charges brought against her under Richard Bates' coaching."
On returning home, Raj had said: "They (England players) are foul-mouthed. They speak rot."
But ECB said no untoward incident took place during the series.
England took pride "in playing cricket within the spirit of the game and the series against India was no different. As far as England were concerned it was played in a friendly and competitive way," the statement said.
Raj had said that the verbal abuse had prompted her team to respond in kind.
"We decided to give it back to them. First it was our close-in fielders who gave the Englishwomen the shock treatment and slowly it spread," she said.
England won the One-Day series against India 4-0, but the visitors took the two-match Test rubber 1-0.
