CHENNAI: Thanking Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for announcing an additional package for the Thane-hit farmers, the Federation of Tamil Nadu Farmers Associations on Monday suggested that the State government consult farmers before implementing the schemes to make them successful. In a press release, it said that the government should consult the farmers in connection with the removal of collapsed trees. “Small farmers have already removed the fallen trees while some are hoping to get some yield of cashew and jackfruit in April from trees that escapre the cyclone’s wrath. It is the farmers who do agriculture on a large scale who want fallen trees cleared. So, the government has to consult the farmers,” said Thankar Bachan, State presidentof the federation. The federation has also appealed to the government to waive off loans taken by the farmers and bear the expenses of their children’s education till the farmers become self-sufficient. The federation further appealed that schools in their districts that provide noon meals should serve breakfast in addition. “Farrmers are ready to work hard. They only need help and the government needs to take care of them,” Bachan added.
