Fishermen killing: Italian marines' case adjourned
Judge PD Rajan also rejected the defence plea for the translated version of the charge sheet in Italian language.

Kollam: A local court in Kollam on Tuesday adjourned to July 25 trial in the case relating to the killing of two Indian fishermen by two Italian marines on board 'Enrica Lexie' off Kollam coast. Judge PD Rajan of the district and sessions court adjourned the trial to July 25 and rejected the defence plea for the translated version of the charge sheet in Italian language.

The judge observed that there was no provision under CrPC to provide translated version of charge sheet. The defence lawyers were well versed in Malayalam and English languages, the court pointed out. The court also quoted a Madras High Court order in this regard.

The court said the service of three translators for the benefit of the accused had been provided.

The marines Latore Massimilliano and Salvatore Girone were present in court.

The marines, engaged for security of the Italian vessel, were arrested on February 19 for allegedly opening fire and killing fishermen Jalestine and Ajesh Binki, who had ventured to sea from nearby Neendakara in a boat with nine others.

Kerala High court had on May 30 granted them bail with stringent conditions and they are now staying here.
