BANGALORE: The city which has once seen terrorist activities such as bomb blasts, is leaving no stone unturned in making Namma Metro foolproof against terror ploys. According to the Bangalore Metro security plans, on the 6.7 km stretch between Byappanahalli to M G Road, each of the six stations will have Xray Baggage Inspection Systems. After entering the station, all the passengers with luggage will have to put the bags through the scanners. The commuters after passing through the metal detectors, will be frisked and scanned with an EVD Handheld Explosives Detector. The security agencies, however, know that when it comes to modern explosives such as RDX, TNT, DNT, MNT, TNB, HMX sometimes these machines can fail and for such situations a dedicated team of sniffer dogs will also be deployed.
"In Delhi Metro, CISF uses specially trained sniffer dogs that can identify modern explosives such as RDX, TNT, DNT, MNT, TNB and HMX. In situations wherein, a suspicious activity is noticed, the dog squad is called," CISF, assistant inspector general, Rohit Katyar said. The sniffer dogs have to be specially trained for identifying modern explosives as the current pack of trained dogs can only identify gun powder, gelatin sticks and other crude explosive materials.
