THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday announced free ration to the victims of monsoonrelated calamities in the state.
The Chief Minister was speaking after reviewing the statewide situation through video conferencing with district collectors. A sum of Rs 20 lakh each has been sanctioned to district collectors for conducting relief works.

After the southwest monsoon set in over Kerala, 14 relief camps were opened seven each in Alappuzha and Kottayam, the Chief Minister said. Instructions have been issued to open more if found necessary.

The actual losses are much larger, Chandy said.
