Badly shaken by the ghoulish serial killings of children over a dozen families have already left the locality.

Noida (UP): Badly shaken by the ghoulish serial killings of children and women in the area, several families living in Nithari village have started fleeing the area.

Over a dozen families have already left the locality and more plans to do so. "At least ten families living in this lane have left and more are expected to leave," said Hari Sharma, a grocery shop owner in the area.

Nithari case has not just ruined Noida’s image as a hi-tech city but it's also making its financial impact felt. Most of the migrant workers employed in Noida houses and offices for meager wages are planning to quit.

Many of these daily-wage workers were staying in one-room flats rented out to them for around Rs 1000 a month. As they flee from the area, residents are worrying who will do the menial works then?

"I will not stay here. I will go back to my earlier job in Andhra Pradesh. At least my family will be safe there," said Dil Bahadur Sahi, a housekeeping staff with a local call centre, whose wife Nanda Devi went missing from Nithari.

Raja Haldar, whose sister Rimpa Haldar was identified as one of the 17 victims, used to work as a caddy at the Noida Golf Course. But now he has left his job, opting to look after his younger siblings for the time being.

This phenomenon has also given rise to concern among the local community that fearing loss in their earning by way of the rents collected from the migrant families.

Of the 17 victims identified till now, only one child belonged to the village and all others were from migrant families. Most of the families are from Bihar, West Bengal and Orissa and some others are from Nepal.
