The UDF government is trying to intimidate and silence tribals who protest against the illegal land encroachment by big guns and planters, said CPM state secretariat member A K Balan here on Wednesday.
Speaking after inaugurating a dharna in front of the District Collectorate here, he said the government’s failure to take action against the encroachers is disturbing.
“The Oommen Chandi government disrespects the rights of tribals while shielding the encroachers of public land,” he said and urged the government to expedite the measures to retrieve the land and to take strong action against the encroachers.
Earlier, hundreds of CPM activists from across the district laid siege to the Collectorate protesting against the price rise of essential commodities and corruption. CPM district leaders C K Saseendran and P A Mohammed also spoke.
