BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has decided to include all the blocks in the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) by the end of the Twelfth Five Year Plan.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here on Friday. Orissa is the first State in the country to launch the NRLM. The programme will be taken up initially in the Naxalite-affected districts and later extended to other areas. It was decided that blocks in which Western Orissa Rural Livelihood Project (WORLP) and Orissa Tribal Empowerment and Livelihoods Programme (OTELP) are being implemented will be included in the Mission scheme in the first phase.

According to the Mission action plan, community coordinators and 'shakti' associates will help the selfhelp groups (SHGs) implement the programme. Special officials placed at block, district and State levels will extend technical assistance to the SHGs.

Official sources said 2,504 local associations have been formed to assist the SHGs with inclusion fund of ` 54 lakh each. The SHGs get financial assistance only through the local associations and federations at the gram panchayat level.
